- What will I be doing as a tutor?
As a tutor, you will mentor two kindergarten students in two 30-minute tutoring sessions with one student per session. You will be given an assignment folder which will include tasks to be completed by the student for that half hour. At the end of each session, tutors will fill out a comment sheet to track the progress of the student. You will continue mentoring the same two students for the length of your commitment.
- Will I receive training?
Yes, all tutors will receive training that is specific to this program. More information about the training session will be provided to you after you submit a registration form.
- How can I sign up for ColumbusReads?

- Does my supervisor/dean have to sign off on my registration form?
If you plan to tutor during work hours, make sure your supervisor is aware of and has approved your participation during working hours.
- Will I be expected to use vacation time, or will I have to make up the time at a later date?
No time-off will be deducted from your work hours, nor will you be expected to make up the time at a later date.
- How many days am I expected to tutor?
Volunteers are expected to tutor one day per week for two hours. Volunteers may sign up to tutor for either Tuesdays or Thursday, and the actual tutoring sessions will be two thirty-minute sessions.
- How long will I be away from campus? Will I be expected to drive to the school or will transportation be provided?
Volunteers will be away from campus for about two hours. One hour total travel time has been calculated for going to and from the school. Campus Area Bus Service will provide bus transportation to and from the schools. A transportation schedule with pick-up times and locations is available on this website.
- I may not be able to tutor for the entire year. Can I still participate?
Yes, the ColumbusReads schedule has been conveniently grouped into quarters or for the entire year:

- Will I be expected to have a background check?
